Spider Monkey
Ateles belzebuth
Spider monkeys eat fruit, leaves, flowers and decaying
wood. Their forms of locomotion include brachiation, climbing and
suspension. They have fission-fusion communities in which the adult
males travel together; they are able to travel at a faster rate than the
females and their infants. These monkeys are diurnal and arboreal.
Their mating duration is five to ten minutes. Female spider monkeys
have an elongated clitoris for scent marking.
